At a dinner party last night the Spitzer affair came up, and inexorably kept returning for discussion like a movie villain. At one point the old saw of how "provincial" we are in America and how this would be a page twelve story in Europe was offered as a defense for Spritzer. After hearing this nauseating excuse for bad behaviour it occurred to me that Europe's cultures are all under siege by radical Muslim immigrants trying to bring Sharia law to Britain, France, Spain, and the Netherlands.
I am sure I don't want to be lectured about my unsophisticated views in light of the fact that European sophisticates own culture is teetering on the verge of extinction through inaction. What inaction do I mean, well outrage for one. Outrage that in the UK there is even discussion of allowing sousal benefits to polygamous couples, that the riots and car burnings in France are tolerated and police cannot enter the districts where these riots are occurring, outrage that in Denmark the press cannot print even the trifle of twelve cartoons without stirring up riots around the world.
There are certainly other examples of inaction by the sclerotic Europeans, their demographic numbers are in a death spiral, and while their culture is swirling around the toilet bowl, I don't think the fact that the Spitzer story would only make page 12 in Europe is much argument in support of treating Spitzer's behaviour lightly.
